From volunteering with charities to nearly a decade at Enaid, Susie has built her career on care and precision

Meet Susie

Susie has been part of the Enaid team since October 2017. As an accounts assistant, her day usually begins with a large coffee and a round of emails before diving into payroll, invoices, payments, and entering transactions into the accounts system. Alongside that, she’s the one responding to client queries as they come through. It’s a role that requires focus, flexibility, and no small amount of patience.

Her journey at Enaid

Her path into accountancy started with volunteering. After completing bookkeeping training, Susie gained experience as a charity bookkeeper before taking on a role at a local church. That experience shaped her outlook. “I found that working with charities was something that I enjoyed, and so, when I saw a vacancy for a bookkeeper at Enaid, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me.”

Since then, she’s enjoyed working with a diverse range of clients, each bringing new challenges and insights. The variety, combined with the sense of purpose, has kept her motivated: “I enjoy working with charities because it feels like a way to contribute towards creating a positive impact, using my accounting knowledge and skills.”

Beyond the numbers

When asked what she finds most rewarding, Susie points to the relationships she builds. “The most rewarding part of working with clients is learning about the work that their charities do and being someone whom they trust to support them with the financial side of their work.”

Her view of Enaid reflects that spirit, too. The three words she chose were friendly, ethical, and supportive. Her daughter had her own light-hearted version: Lego, Wales and chocolate.

Beyond the job

Away from spreadsheets and systems, Susie has a few surprises. She speaks French fluently, has a taste for Green & Black’s 85% cocoa dark chocolate, and admits that if she weren’t in accountancy, psychotherapy might have been her career of choice.

Asked which fictional character would make the best accountant, she goes straight to Hermione Granger:” good attention to detail, strong work ethic, integrity, hard-working, reliable and efficient. I’m sure the ability to work magic would come in useful too!”

And if she could instantly master any skill? Mind-reading.
